Maison et Objet 2015
Maison et Objet is a French interior design trade show, held biannually in Paris. The next show will be in early September.
It is now in its 20th year and it is always a joy and inspiration to visit – I could easily make it my annual pilgrimage. The halls are packed with lavish interior decorations, designer furniture, oriental accessories, revolutionary cooking utensils, beautiful coloured fabrics and every style of bed linen you can imagine.
The exhibition consists of eight huge halls bursting with exhibitors, with each one having something unique to offer. My purpose attending the show this year was, like many others, to seek new influences and styles for both ongoing and future projects. It was an opportunity to open one’s mind to possibilities and new insights.
You definitely need more than a day there – the first day is needed just to gain of sense of all that is available and plan where you want to visit in more depth. For me, that second day was primarily spent in Hall 7 where the leading luxury interior houses had created magnificent and grandiose showrooms. The superior level of craftsmanship and attention to detail demonstrated exclusive yet well-balanced spaces.
However, even with affluent clients, one still needs to keep budget solutions in mind. Hall 5 was a good place for this, with several high end companies being stationed there.
Of course, I cannot mention Paris without expressing the need after a long day on your feet at the show to reward yourself with delightful French cuisine. The 5tharrondissement was my choice for dinner – the perfect way to complete an inspiring journey!
