You may know that for almost two years I have been a keen supporter of RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Art) and a member of their Richard Attenborough Club. Through this I have been able to witness the efforts of exciting new talent, on stage and behind the scenes – and have seen some of the future stars of stage and screen developing their craft in action.
RADA relies heavily on donations to support their mission to educate new generations of artists and keep their training open to all. If any are interested in hearing more about their work, the festive season is full of opportunities to be involved with some wonderful projects at RADA.
If you are in London, you can get a taste of the talent nurtured at the Academy at the RADA Festive Celebration, on Tuesday 5 December. The evening will feature dramatic readings and well-loved carols from RADA students and graduates in the magnificent St Mary Abbots Parish Church, Kensington. You can book tickets to join for festive cheer, mulled wine, mince pies and a taste of Berry Bros. & Rudd’s The King’s Ginger through www.rada.ac.uk/festive
If you can’t attend but would still like to support, RADA is participating in The Big Give Christmas Challenge, an online match-funding campaign. Through this platform, they are seeking to raise £50,000 in support of their Widening Participation & Outreach programmes. All money raised will fund activities for targeted young people who are interested in pursuing a career in the dramatic arts but who may have no other chance to do so. This includes young people at risk, with physical and sensory disabilities, living in poverty, or from Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds. The challenge runs online from 28 November – 5 December, during which all donations made online to RADA will be doubled. Anything you can spare is a great help in this effort: you can find out more and donate by clicking here.
