Extension to large family home in Mill Hill

In this multi generational house we added several extensions.

The detached house has been transformed into a multi-generational home for one family – the owners, their two grown-up children and the children’s young families.  The property has been enlarged at the back with a large, two-storey extension.  The top level has been converted into a a new living area and four dormers were added.  Internally, it has been split into three independent apartment, one on each floor.

Extension to large family home

The planning process took quite a while here, and we needed to get separate permissions for the front, side and rear dormers, as well as the double storey rear extension. There, the original permission asked for a sloping roof, which our clients preferred to be flat. To achieve this, we had to appeal the councils decision, which we did successfully.

Three apartments

The ground floor has been extended to the back with an open plan kitchen dining area and a fire place nook. A short corridor is leading to this space from the communal hallway, which has a lift for convenience. The generous master suite has a walk through dressing area and a spacious double vanity ensuite with walk in shower.

The first floor apartment has bedrooms for two children, with a family bedroom as well as a master suite with adjacent office space. An equally large open plan living dining kitchen area has full height windows overlooking the grand garden at the back.

The penthouse apartment can be reached both by a dedicated staircase as well as a lift, from which one has direct access. When you arrive, you are inside a large open plan kitchen dining living area, and a view onto the big green roof over the lower parts of the house.
