0559 New double storey rear extension in Ilford
We have been working on this project for a few years, on and off. Our clients first came to us to explore extending their end of terrace as much as possible to the side. The design we all came up with has basically doubled this property as a two storey side extension plus extending the roof.
This has allowed us to introduce a few interesting changes, where normally we wouldn’t have enough space for them.
The ground floor entrance has been opened up to form a useful space for clothes. Before, we could go straight through the building into the garden, but this time this was broken up to allow for a bigger kitchen with a seating and dining area in the rear extension, a lounge with a secret office with garden view at the back and a formal dining area with storage at the front, as well as a family bathroom with shower at the end of the corridor.
Upstairs we have four bedrooms and a Master suite, with two secret doors – one for the dressing area which extends up into the loft space – as does one of the childrens bedrooms as well – and an ensuite.
You might notice that we added a walk on roof light on the first floor corridor as well as a roof light over the family bathroom on the first floor – which gives an interesting effect and lots of natural light, despite the fact that this bathroom is not bordering with any windows.
