This lovely ground floor apartment is North London is a pied-a-terre of an Australian couple. The property is situated between Highgate and Dartmouth Park and a short distance from Parliament Hill and Hampstead Heath.
The brief called for enlargement of the current space and for opening it as much as possible onto the garden.
We extended the property at the back and incorporated large sliding glass doors on the rear as well as on the side. This fully linked the inside and the outside spaces and introduced a lot of natural light into the apartment.
The back extension contains now a good size living room, which is separated from the kitchen-diner by internal double door.
The construction of the rear extension impacted the layout of the whole floor. For a better flow of the space, we applied for a permission to build a side extension as well, which would provide space for a new bathroom.
The bathroom has been relocated into the new area. The space feels bright as it has light openings on two opposite walls, plus a roof light. The private door opens onto a new secluded garden by the side of the house.
The Owners choose a cosy and retro finish to their home. We installed cork flooring throughout, including the kitchen and the bathroom. This linked all areas together and made it feel warm and welcoming.
The majority of the finishes in the apartment is white, including the walls, tall radiators, kitchen units and bathroom cabinets. A splash of colour has been added thanks to colourful living room furniture and some kitchen elements, such as the blue splash-back.
Construction was completed in December 2016.
